In a meet where every point became crucial, the Cicero-North Syracuse wrestling team came as close as possible to beating Central Square without doing so, taking a 34-33 defeat to the Red Hawks.
Central Square took seven matches to CNS’s six, the pivot point being a close 171-pound match where Ariel Anocedo lost to Josh Bredenburg 9-7.
CNS, working without Todd Hagger, had f0ur straight wins starting at 135 pounds, where Jordan Ramos pinned Josh Prall with seven seconds left in their match. James Segars (140 pounds) followed with a pin over Derrick Brooks in 3:06.
Continuing the streak, Chad Izyk, at 145 pounds, got past Nick Guerin 7-1, just before Anthony Kite (152 pounds) pinned Chance Scott in 1:12.
Patrick Dyer, injured for most of the season, returned at 125 pounds and pinned Ryan Hayes in 1:30, just as Austin Morris (215 pounds) took 1:12 to finish off Clay Deacons. In a 285-pound exhibition (no points), Jamie Sacco got his pin over Trevor Clement in a scant 34 seconds.
Two other times, CNS wrestlers had decisions, as Dan Ciciarelli (103 pounds) lost to Brandon Engebresten 8-2 and Tony Battista (112 pounds) dropped a 10-0 decision to Alex Potts.
CNS will visit Auburn Wednesday night and go to Chittenango on Thursday.
