Naturally, the Christian Brothers Academy boys soccer team wishes to be in front of the state rankings a month from now, when trophies are handed out in Oneonta.

As it is, the Brothers will have to defend the no. 1 state Class A ranking the rest of the way, as it has remained unbeaten with a 14-0-1 record.

The Brothers completed a regular-season sweep of defending state Class A co-champion Fulton last Tuesday by going north, to Oswego County, and beating the Red Raiders 5-2.

Unlike the wild 4-3 affair on Sept. 14 where every goal was scored in the second half and CBA nearly blew two different leads, the Brothers took charge early, got a 2-0 lead by halftime, and never wavered.

Colin Price scored twice as Mawuena Agbossoumonde and L.J. Papaleo each had a goal and two assists. Gale Agbossoumonde got the other tally, as Lars Bowman earned an assist.

Joe Krisch took some heat in the net, as Fulton teammates Zach Merry and Matt Farfaglia scored in the second half, but Krisch still finished with seven saves.

In Thursday night’s trip to Chittenango, the Brothers toyed with the Bears early, then breezed home with a 3-1 victory that locked up a piece of the OHSL Freedom division championship.

Deciding it early, CBA went up 2-0 by halftime, and though Pat Connelly would beat Joe Krisch in the second half, the Brothers would stay in front.

Papaleo, along with Gale and Mawuena Agbossoumonde, each would have one goal, with Rick Messe joining Papaleo in the assist column.

At home for its last two regular-season games, CBA will entertain East Syracuse-Minoa on Tuesday and Jamesville-DeWitt on Thursday night.
