Returning from its Andersen Tournament title at Cicero-North Syracuse on Dec. 2, the Baldwinsville wrestling team ripped through last Tuesday’s home opener against Auburn, topping the Maroons 73-12.
Four times, B’ville won matches in less than a minute, starting with Pat Nasoni (195 pounds) pinning Brandon Malone in 30 seconds and ending with Joe Nasoni (182 pounds) taking 19 seconds to pin Bob Reynolds.
In between, there was Chad McArdell, at 126 pounds, earning a 37-second pin over Pete Casper and Ryan McArdell (152 pounds) taking 55 seconds to pin Tom Campagnola. Right after, Anthony Rafkis (160 pounds) finished off Kyle Hunt in 1:07, this after Kevin Paul (106 pounds) pinned Austin Doger in 1:26.
Elsewhere, Brent Grippe, at 170 pounds, took 1:55 to pin Justin Koslowski, while Jake Florack (220 pounds) and Jabr Bengabr (120 pounds) had second-period falls over, respectively, Dom Giacona and Dustin Swan.
Tim Sposato, at 113 pounds, and Connor Ross, at 132 pounds, claimed forfeits, while Jake Norton (138 pounds) nearly had a technical fall, but still routed Steve Ansteth 16-2. Steve Petrelli had the closest match at 145 pounds, but still beat Nick Campagnola 9-5.
Following that, the Bees went north, to Dexter, for the General Brown Duals on Saturday and emerged with a 4-1 record at that event.
B’ville dominated each of the first four contests, topping Clifton Fine 78-6, Ogdensburg Free Academy 59-18, Homer 52-19 and Beaver River 55-21.
Only at the end, against the hosts from General Brown, did the Bees get tripped up, falling to the Lions 45-27, in large part because B’ville had to forfeit three matches, amounting to 18 points – the exact difference between the two sides.
Ross, named his team’s Most Outstanding Wrestler at the meet, pinned Cameron Cole at the end of the first period, just before Norton pinned David Diehl in 1:30. Earlier, Joe Nasoni edged Cotton Erb 3-2 and Pat Nasoni pinned Zach Pitre in 3:28, while Paul claimed a forfeit.
On Wednesday night, B’ville takes on Liverpool, a prelude to joining 14 other teams at Indian River for what promises to be a stern test at the North Country Invitational.
