Biographical info:
I have lived in Radisson for more than seven years with my two children, Michael and Anna. Michael is in eitgth grade at Durgee Junior High, and Anna is in sixth grade at Ray Middle School. I am 45 years old, and I’m a Republican. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and my master’s degree from Le Moyne College.
Why are you running for office?
I am running for this position once again so that I may continue to serve the residents of Lysander in a positive, efficient and effective way. Throughout my public service career, and working with the community, I have always dedicated myself to helping the residents of our community.
Why are you the best candidate?
It has been a little over a year since I was appointed and subsequently elected to office, and I have made positive changes in the town clerk’s office.
One of my goals in this position is to consistently review my budget and search for ways to save the town money. This year, I cut my supplies budget by $1,500. In reviewing staff needs, I noted that having a third employee in the town clerk’s office was an unnecessary expense. In eliminating that position, I saved the town $6,000 per year.
I implemented an online dog license renewal system where residents can pay for their dog’s license online at their convenience. The system allows residents to renew their dog’s license from any computer with access to the internet through the town of Lysander’s website. I believe that giving residents the option to pay online is just another way my office can provide excellent service to the community.
As Records Management Officer, I must have easy access to all of my files. Currently, my deputy clerk and I are developing a new filing system which will make access to records easier. The new system will also be helpful in determining retention of certain records as well. In the organization process, the office and storage area will be organized to provide quick access and easy retrieval of records.
What are the major issues facing the town, and what will you do to address them?
Shortly after taking office I realized how difficult it can be for residents who live very busy lives and residents who find it difficult to leave their homes to obtain our services during regular business hours. As such, I keep my office open during specific evenings, and I offer appointments for residents after hours. I am also available to travel to residents’ homes for certain needs such as notary services or handicap tag issuance.
I want to continue to provide the excellent services our residents have come to expect. Although the town clerk position is an elected position, it is not political in nature. I believe as a public servant it is my duty to meet the needs of the residents in a professional, efficient manner.
