Wampsville — Madison County Election Commissioners Laura P. Costello and Kelley S. Hood have issued an announcement regarding voter registration and absentee voting for the upcoming presidential primaries in New York state.
There will be full county Presidential Primaries for the Democratic Party and Republican Party on Tuesday, April 19. To vote in the primary election, people must be registered by March 25 and a member of either the Democratic or Republican party.
In New York state, a registered voter remaining within the county cannot change their party affiliation at this time to vote in the primaries. According to Election Law 5-302.2 any party enrollment change made between 24 days before the General Election in 2015 and 25 days before the General Election in 2016 (Oct. 14, 2016) will not go into effect until Nov. 15, 2016. Voters can verify their registration and enrollment at voterlookup.elections.state.ny.us/votersearch.aspx
Anyone who has moved since they last registered must re-register. Registration forms are available from the Madison County Board of Elections by calling 366-2231 or downloaded at madisoncounty.ny.gov/boe. Forms are also available at post offices and town, city and village clerks offices.
If you wish to vote by absentee, the absentee application forms are available from the Madison County Board of Elections by calling 366-2231 and can also be downloaded at madisoncounty.ny.gov/boe. You may also come into the office at 138 North Court Street, Building 4, Wampsville, fill out an absentee form and vote in person.
