Back from its solid showing in Myrtle Beach, the Liverpool softball team started to tear its way through challengers in the CNY Counties League National division.
When the Warriors went to Central Square last Monday afternoon, it unleashed all kinds of offense in an impressive 13-4 victory over the Red Hawks.
Central Square pitcher Kelsey Morgan had thrown a no-hitter in her last outing, a 1-0 win over West Genesee on April 14. Here, though, Liverpool pounded Morgan for 20 hits, starting with a three-run first inning and continuing with four runs in the fourth and five runs in the seventh.
Brianna Harris went four-for-four, including two doubles, and finished with four RBIs. Carrie Stoddard managed three hits and drove in three runs, while Alicia Hansen added three hits and an RBI. Dana Nicoletti, to augment her pitching effort (she struck out 10), matched Harris with four hits of her own.
In Wednesday’s non-league game at Oneida, the Warriors continued to swing the bats as it romped past the Indians 11-0.
Seven runs in the first two innings pretty much settled matters, as Stoddard and Harris both finished with two hits and three RBIs. Hansen scored twice and drove in two runs as Kaylah Quilty and Rachel Castellani earned one RBI apiece.
Meanwhile, Stoddard pitched three innings, only allowing one hit. The longer stint went to eighth-grader Peyton Bellrose, who went four frames and struck out four, only allowing a pair of hits.
Liverpool hosted Baldwinsville on Thursday afternoon and reached double digits for the third time in the week as it rolled past the Bees 17-1.
A four-run first inning proved just the launching point for the Warriors, who really put it away in the late going with four runs in the fifth and eight runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Harris and Stoddard each scored three runs and combined for five of Liverpool’s 13 hits. Harris and Cerrone both earned two RBIs as Clark, Bellrose, Marissa Hutt, Kylie Spado and Abby Tremont got one RBI apiece. Nicoletti pitched and struck out six while allowing six hits.
In a pair of games Saturday at Union-Endicott, the Warriors beat Vestal 9-5, but lost to the host U-E Tigers 5-1. Somehow, the Warriors stuck through the cold, wet weather, which could affect games this week against West Genesee and Fayetteville-Manlius.
