Seniors from The Centers at St. Camillus will return to the classroom tomorrow and Friday as part of the award-winning “Back to School Program,” an intergenerational programming partnership between St. Camillus and Bishop Ludden Junior-Senior High School. The seniors — all residents at St. Camillus — will attend classes with their younger counterparts, interact with the students and participate in class discussions. This is the second year for the program, which last week was honored with the Outstanding Intergenerational Program Award given annually by the Onondaga County Department of Aging & Youth. “This program is a wonderful opportunity that benefits all those involved,” said St. Camillus President and CEO Aileen M. Balitz. “Last year one of our residents was able to share their personal experiences with students learning about The Great Depression.” “St. Camillus and Bishop Ludden are an outstanding example of intergenerational excellence,” Lisa D. Alford, Commissioner of the Onondaga County’s Department of Aging and Youth said recently. “They provide wonderful intergenerational programming that benefits our youth, seniors, and the community as a whole.”
