Going into the 2010 season, the Baldwinsville girls swim team meant to challenge for the top spot in the CNY Counties League — and are off to just the right start. The Bees hosted Oswego Thursday night and took charge by winning the first three races, never getting caught in a 54-40 victory over the Buccaneers. B’ville got it moving in the 200 medley relay, the season’s first race, where Amy Sidorakis, Charis Parker, Elena Margrey and Christa Waldecker combined for a victory in a time of 2:25 flat. Waldecker would return and produce another win in the 200 individual medley in 2:28.64, then work her way to first place in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.14. Kaitlyn Martin moved in and finished first in the 200 freestyle in 2:10.85, later claiming second in the 500 freestyle (5:46.01), just behind Oswego’s Mara Parker (5:45.43). Margrey swam the 100 freestyle in 59.27 seconds and Sidorakis needed 1:09.21 to prevail in the 100 backstroke. To close out the meet, the Bees won once more, in the 400 freestyle relay, where Margrey, Martin, Waldecker and Margot Courtois sped to first place in 4:03.78. Parker, competing in the 100 breaststroke, nearly won that race, her time of 1:11.75 lagging just behind the Bucs’ Michaela Auer (1:17.62). B’ville is home again Wednesday night to face Nottingham.
