A couple of days of rest helped the Christian Brothers Academy baseball team shake off back-to-back defeats to East Syracuse-Minoa and Auburn at the start of May. For when the Brothers came back to play for last Tuesday’s doubleheader against Cortland, it swept the Purple Tigers in games that vastly contrasted each other. One of the games saw CBA beat Cortland 10-6, but it took nine innings. Twice, the Brothers led, at 4-1 and 6-4. Both times, the Purple Tigers rallied, using single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to stay alive. Finally, the Brothers used a four-run outburst in the top of the ninth to win it, as 14 hits helped to overcome five errors. Sean McGraw drove in two runs as Bryant Moore, Pete Corasaniti and Steve LaBerge had one RBI apiece. LaBerge also picked up the win after relieving Rob Cuomo in the seventh inning. CBA won the other game 7-1 as pitching ace Mike Kitts blanked the Purple Tigers after the first inning, getting help when the Brothers scored in four consecutive innings, starting in the bottom of the third. Moore and Spencer Dunn each got two RBIs as Kitts also drove in a run.
