After three consecutive defeats to open its season, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys swim team finally broke the string.
The Northstars went to Nottingham, annual site of the Section III championship meet, last Tuesday night and put together a 94-75 victory over the Bulldogs.
Setting the tone in the 200 medley relay, CNS had John McCabe, Kyle Whalen, Tyler Smith and Jacob Werksman combine for a top time of 2:02 flat. Whalen would go on to win the 100 breaststroke (1:11.58) later in the meet.
Paul LaRosa emerged with a pair of titles, first winning the 200 freestyle in 2:11.98, then teaming with Smith, Werksman and Dan Angarano to prevail in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.74.
As LaRosa was gaining the “official” points in the 500 freestyle (5:57.75), Dan O’Connor, the Westhill swimmer on Nottingham’s squad, put up a time of 4:34.58.
McCabe had a first-place clocking of 56.38 seconds in the 100 freestyle, just after Kyle Sager won the 100 butterfly (1:12.76). Billy Werksman continued his win streak on the diving board, earning 202.73 points along the way.
CNS takes on Auburn Friday night at the LeMoyne College pool.
