Through a split of its opening games, the Liverpool boys lacrosse team got some valuable experience, but still had to wonder about where it stood. On that latter point, the Warriors felt a lot better following last Thursday night’s trip to Corcoran, a one-sided affair where it wore out the Cougars and won an impressive 12-5 decision. Corcoran came into the game at 4-0 and fully confident that it could maintain its early-season hot streak, while Liverpool was eager to play again following the snow-enforced postponement of last Tuesday’s game with Baldwinsville. Liverpool gained some momentum, though, when it played Corcoran to a 2-2 first-quarter draw. And from that point forward, the Warriors would dominate. By winning the face-offs and playing tough, physical defense, Liverpool kept Corcoran uncomfortable, seizing a 6-3 advantage by halftime. All told, the Warriors gave up just one goal in each of the last three periods of play, and Ryan Duffy was superb in the net, recording 15 saves. Mitch Long and Matt DiMarco combined to tear up the Cougars’ defense, each of them putting home four goals as Long added an assist. Derek Thomas had a goal and two assists, while Chris Spencer, Matt Savlov and Devin Clegg also took turns scoring. Tyler Kamide and Nick Givas added assists. Liverpool will take the measure of defending state Class A champion West Genesee Tuesday before meeting another big rival, Cicero-North Syracuse, Friday at Bragaman Stadium.
