West Genesee’s boys indoor track and field team battled its way to 20 points, sharing fifth place with Henninger during last Wednesday night’s Bob Grieve Invitational at Manley Field House. Cicero-North Syracuse won with 49 points.
Steve Houghmaster engaged in a close battle with Liverpool’s Colin Savage in the 1,000-meter run, and Houghmaster just missed on the win as he posted a time of 2:35.81, just behind Savage, who won in 2:35.13.
Over in the 4×400 relay, WG’s quartet of Zac Karpinski, Zack Lafaver, Jon Richardson and Joe Lafaver finished second, in 3:34.85, just behind CNS (3:32.62) at the wire. Billy Gabriel was fourth at 1,000 meters in 9:56.95 as Jordan-Elbridge’s Cody Stanton (10:04.18) was sixth. Bishop Ludden’s Zach Johnson got to third in the 600-meter run in 1:29.02. Sean Curry was fifth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:40.59.
WG had just six points on the girls side, the only local team to earn a point. Katie Bott was fourth in the 300-meter dash in 43.51 seconds and helped Colleen Smith, Kristin Waters and Kayla Murphy finish fifth in the 4×400 relay in 4:23.84.
