Oneida’s cross country teams would sweep last Tuesday’s head-to-head meet against Utica-Notre Dame, beating the Jugglers 22-34 on the boys side and 23-32 on the girls side. In the boys race, Conor McCarthy grabbed individual honors, posting a time of 18 minutes, 32 seconds. Pat Markle was third, in 20:10.9, while Kyle Meyers finished fourth in 20:26.7. Over in the girls race, Erin Durdan led Oneida as she won the individual title in a clocking of 22:33.8. Sara Rifendifer was fourth (23:11.4) and Lena Reginelli was fifth in 23:39.6. From there, both the Indians and Vernon Verona Sherrill worked their way to Proctor Park in Utica for the 67th edition of the E.J. Herrmann Invitational on Saturday. In the girls No. 2 race, the Red Devils, with 177 points, were seventh in a 14-team field and the Indians were ninth (225 points). Holy Names (34 points) took the top spot. For VVS, Lauren MacDonald contended for the top spot among individuals, eventually taking third place in a time of 20:26.9. Kerry Miley was 24th (22:34.4), while Emily Hudson was 44th in 23:48.4. Casey Kane (24:18.7) and Becky Talbot (24:33.1) rounded out the scoring. Rifendifer led Oneida’s effort, finishing 31st in 22:52 flat. Durdan was 38th (23:13.3), while Reginelli took 46th place in 23:41.6. Kelsey Hatch (24:39.6) and Jen Scholl (24:41.8) were next to each other. Running in the same boys No. 2 race, Oneida finished ninth with 209 points and VVS (262 points) took 11th place as Sauquoit Valley (63 points) took the top spot. Individually, the Red Devils’ Seth MacDonald finished 11th, in a time of 18:04.2, just ahead of McCarthy (18:21.9) in 12th place. Joe Casella gave Oneida a 19th place time of 18:43.4, while Nathan Faherty was 26th for VVS in 19:14.9. For the Indians, Meyers (20:33.2) and Paul Greene (20:33.5) were 61st and 62nd, respectively, while VVS saw Dylan Kavanaugh (21:06.8) and Zane Hasty (21:08.1) finish close to each other.
