Both the Westhill and Jordan-Elbridge softball teams improved their respective OHSL Liberty division positions with simultaneous league wins. In the Warriors’ case, that meant going to Hannibal and registering 14 hits in the course of a 13-3 win over its namesakes to the north. Emily Mangicaro was busy pitching a complete game, allowing just one hit. Meanwhile, Westhill took control with four runs in the top of the second inning, and when Hannibal closed to 5-3, it answered with eight total runs in the sixth and seventh innings to get clear. Toni Secreti, taking a break from her pitching duties, tripled and drove in three runs. Brittany Kaiser also belted a triple, as she and Nicole Toth each drove in two runs. Mangicaro, Mary Bailey and Courtney Morgan had one RBI apiece. As this was going on, J-E was at home, using a pair of big innings to subdue Skaneateles in a 5-2 victory over the Lakers. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles scored twice to go in front. After the Lakers got back even, 2-2, J-E put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth that would prove decisive. Sarah Fordyce hit the game’s only home run, finishing with two RBIs. Jenn Gasparek doubled to support her own complete-game pitching effort, while Alicia Andrianos, Liz Caspari and Samantha Lewis each had one RBI.
