With a busy week of activity, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse team intended to shake off its season-opening April 3 overtime loss to Baldwinsville. Reversing itself, the Northstars jumped ahead of Christian Brothers Academy last Monday night at Bragman Stadium, then held on down the stretch to beat the Brothers 13-11. Paced again by Tori Praino, who would finish with three goals and three assists, CNS threatened to run away in the first half, eventually building a 9-4 edge going into the break. Still, CBA fought back, making it a close affair in the second half behind the work of Katie Webster, who led both sides with five goals. But Alex Gale made nearly twice as many saves as her counterpart, Emma Taylor — 11 to six — and in a tight game, that would matter. Alyssa Cristaldi earned her own three-goal hat trick, with Ashley Waldron earning two goals and two assists and Emily Bryerton also finding the net twice. Ashley Caparizzo put up a goal and two assists as Rachel Geruso got one goal and one assist. Sarah Allen scored, too, displaying the Northstars’ depth. CNS had an easier time of it on Tuesday night, at least in terms of margin, as it pushed to a 12-6 victory over the Oswego Buccaneers. Instead of rain, it now snowed, and the April chill slowed both teams down. But the Northstars proved quite steady, working its way to a 6-3 halftime edge, then doubling that margin without serious stress. Cristaldi, with four goals, moved to the forefront, fed by both Praino (two assists, to go with three goals) and Waldron, who had four assists while also scoring twice. Caporizzo also scored twice, with Geruso getting a goal and three assists. In another one-sided affair, the Northstars went to Rome Free Academy Thursday night and ripped the Black Knights 17-4, building the margin in a 13-1 first-half blitz. Praino backed up her two goals with four assists. Geruso led, scoring four times, while Caporizzo and Bryerton each had three goals and one assist. Waldron found the net twice, with Cristaldi, Katie Jacium and Nadine DellaPelle earning one goal apiece.
