Even though it was just mid-April, the Marcellus girls lacrosse team already had taken charge of the OHSL Liberty Division II regular-season race. Moving to 3-0 in league play (3-2 overall), the Mustangs claimed its third consecutive win when it went to Westhill last Tuesday night and beat the Warriors 13-8. Marcellus had a majority of the possessions in the first half, but only led 5-3 as Westhill goalie Morgan Roach kept turning away shots. Roach would finish with 15 saves, but the Mustangs found the net with more regularity in the second half as, gradually, the lead grew. Nora Barry, in particular, hurt Westhill, winning most of the draws, then converting as she poured in six goals. Meghan Connors had two goals and two assists, while Erin Walter got two goals and one assist. Andrea Burrows had a goal and three assists as Leea Sinay and Kelly Welch also converted. On Westhill’s side, Caroline Buonocore and Emily Haggerty both produced three-goal hat tricks as Brenna Rainone and Molly Kiggins also converted. Claire Purcell and Maggie Tripodi added assists. Mired at 0-2, Bishop Ludden would break into the win column Tuesday, winning at home in a 17-13 decision over Manlius-Pebble Hill. In the first half, the Gaelic Knights worked its way to a 9-5 edge, and maintained it the rest of the way despite the Trojans’ Carly Bright putting together six goals and four assists. Mary Ritchie had her own star turn for Ludden, with five goals and three assists. Lauren Roy was close behind, with four goals and three assists, while Kat O’Hara also scored three times. Brenna Kincaid had two goals and two assists as Liz Tully had a goal and two assists. Brittany Law, Erannan Shattuck and Eve Seiter also had goals.
