Even with victories in two of the three relay events, the Skaneateles girls swim team could not quite keep up at Jamesville-Dewitt during Wednesday night’s 98-86 defeat to the Red Rams. In an exciting 200 freestyle relay, the Lakers’ quartet of Nikki Cole, Rachael DeWitt, Amanda Shoenfelt and Gaelyn Price finished on top, but not by much. Skaneateles finished in a time of 1:52.21, beating J-D (1:52.31) by one-tenth of a second. DeWitt, on her own, claimed a couple of titles, beating the field in the 200 freestyle (2:09.22) and also swimming the 100 backstroke in a winning time of 1:08.01. And in the 400 freestyle relay, DeWitt, Shoenfelt, Holly Ross and Sarah Sawyer prevailed in 4:16.42. Cole held off teammate Morgan Pusey, 27.27 seconds to 27.49, to claim the 50 freestyle. J-D built its winning margin by sweeping the top three spots in diving and the 100 butterfly, also having Molly Hair take the 200 individual medley (2:25.72) and 100 freestyle (58.59 seconds). Skaneateles gets another firm test Tuesday against CBA at LeMoyne College’s pool, then is home next Thursday to face Fulton.
