Recovering nicely from its first Division II West league loss of the season to Fulton on Dec. 17, the Skaneateles boys ice hockey team went to Watertown IHC Tuesday night and mostly used a big second period to pound the Cavaliers 7-4. Perhaps slow to get moving after a long bus ride north to the Watertown Fairgrounds, Skaneateles played IHC to a 1-1 tie through one period. Whatever got said during the intermission seemed to work, though, as the Lakers put in four unanswered goals in the second period to take charge. Packy Jones again produced a hat trick, scoring three times and adding an assist. Dylan VanHoltz backed up his single tally with two assists, while Brendan Major, Dan Tarolli and Rory Callahan also getting goals. Jon Rogalia and Mike Benson each had two assists, while Tyler Stanton, Jake Fabrizio and Jake Cooney earned single assists. IHC’s Matt Morgia led his side with two goals and two assists, but the Cavaliers took just 24 shots, half the Lakers’ total of 48. Following some time to rest during the holiday break, the Lakers return next Saturday for a trip south to face Cortland/Homer in a showdown for first place in Division II West.
