The Cazenovia Forum will wade into the highly-charged debate on immigration when it presents its next speaker, one of the nation’s preeminent authorities on U.S. immigration and asylum law at 7 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Catherine Cummings Theatre on Lincklaen Street.
The speaker will be Stephen Yale-Loehr, who has practiced immigration law for more than 30 years and is co-author of “Immigration Law and Procedure,” the leading 20-volume treatise on U.S. immigration law. The title of his presentation will be “Our Broken Immigration System and How to Fix It.”
The event is free of charge and no reservations are required. The speaker will take questions from the audience following his presentation, and a reception will follow at the Lincklaen House, next door to the theatre.
Yale-Loehr teaches immigration and asylum law at Cornell Law School as professor of immigration practice and is of counsel at Miller Mayer in Ithaca. He is frequently quoted in the press on immigration issues and has often testified before Congress.
He is the coauthor or editor of many books, including “Green Card Stories;” “America’s Challenge: Domestic Security, Civil Liberties and National Unity After September 11;” “Balancing Interests: Rethinking the Selection of Skilled Immigrants;” “Global Business Immigration Practice Guide;” and numerous law review articles.
Yale-Loehr is the 2001 recipient of AILA’s Elmer Fried Award for excellence in teaching and the 2004 recipient of AILA’s Edith Lowenstein Award for excellence in advancing the practice of immigration law. He is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Yale-Loehr is a member of the New York bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Business Immigration and Asylum committees.
