For the month of March, the Community Library of DeWitt & Jamesville’s Art in the Library will feature local artist Jan Navales, whose love for fabric has taken her in many directions artistically. Exploring the applications of color on fabric through dyeing, hand painting, screen printing, stitching and more have led to the creation of many pieces of fabric used for art.
“Each time I start an art project it takes me down a new avenue that ends up to be exciting. I have now added print making on paper and an application of that art on to fabrics,” said Navales.
Working with fabrics and design from an early age, Navales was born in Syracuse but has traveled extensively around the world, noting that “experiencing what other cultures offer is very enlightening and always opened up new artistic paths.”
Navales’ art can be viewed at the community library now through the end of March.
