In an effort to be accessible to the community, newly elected mayor of Minoa Bill Brazill has decided to introduce a monthly “Pizza with the Mayor” event to give residents a chance to speak with him about their concerns, suggestions or just to chat about living in Minoa.
“It’s a great opportunity for residents to give their ideas, questions and concerns in a casual setting,” said Brazill. “Some people may not be able to make our board meetings or don’t feel comfortable in a setting like that, so I wanted to give the opportunity and be accessible to residents.”
Brazill hosted the first “Pizza with the Mayor” event at 6 p.m. on April 27 at Trappers II in Minoa. Residents can enjoy a slice of pizza and soda while getting a chance to talk with their mayor.
Brazill was elected as mayor in at the March village elections. Before his election, he served as deputy mayor for 12 years and was elected to the Minoa Board of Trustees two years before that. Brazill served as the Minoa Village Justice before being elected to the board, and said decided to step down from that position to become more involved in the village government.
“I like to say Minoa is one of the best kept secrets in Central New York,” said Brazill, who has lived in the village since he was a child.
In another attempt to be accessible to the community, Brazill has created a sign-up list for village emails, which is available at the Minoa Village Offices at 240 N. Main St. in Minoa. This email list will be used as a way to send out the monthly village newsletters, information about village events that are upcoming or as a way to provide emergency information to residents.
He also has ordered white oval car bumper stickers that say “NOA” on them as a way for residents to be able to show their pride for Minoa, said Brazill. These stickers are available for sale for $2 each at the village offices.
Brazill said plans to make this a monthly event, and will host them on the last Wednesday of each. The next “Pizza with the Mayor” event will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 at Trappers II, 101 N Main St., Minoa.
