PHOENIX – All season long a quartet of area high school boys golf teams battled each other and tried, in vain, to catch Christian Brothers Academy atop the Onondaga High School League standings.
This chase continued – and then concluded – Thursday at Beaver Meadows Golf Club during the OHSL fall tournament, where Westhill and Skaneateles put up strong challenges, but CBA again proved too difficult to catch.
Individually, no golfer beat the effort of Westhill’s Danny Young, who shot a one-over-par 73 which tied the Brothers’ Luke Snyder for the individual championship.
As a whole, the Warriors’ score of 435 won a tight battle for second place over the Lakers’ 437, but both trailed CBA’s 398 as it placed six golfers within the individual top 10.
Drew Mancini led Skaneateles, his 80 putting him alone in fourth place, while Westhill’s Anthony Carruth also made it into the top 10 by scoring 85 to share 10th place with Chittenango’s Anthony Thousand.
Behind Mancini, Will Murphy shot an 83 for the Lakers, tying the Warriors’ Trevor Pfaul for 13th place, while Grady Pfau had an 86 for the Lakers that put him just inside the cut line to reach next May’s Section III state qualifer.
Jordan-Elbridge finished sixth in the team standings with 531, beating out Marcellus, who was eighth with 543.
