ONONDAGA COUNTY – Still at the .500 mark the West Genesee girls volleyball team looked to climb above it last Wednesday night when it faced Fayetteville-Manlius, a team it lost to in four sets on Sept. 16.
But the same thing happened here with the Wildcats overwhelmed 25-7 in the first set and 25-17 in the second, and though it won the third 25-21, the Hornets closed it out 25-19 in the fourth.
Norah Emery paced WG with 11 kills and Alaina Dudzinski earned 10 kills. Bella Vallely added four kills as Hollis Pfeiffer played plenty of defense with 26 digs and Eliana Becker earned 31 assists. Sidney Hamilton had eight digs.
Before this, WG swept Central Square 25-15, 25-12, 25-22 last Monday night, Becker picking up 29 assists and Pfeiffer 11 digs on the back line as Dudzinski earned eight kills. Vallely and Emery got six kills apiece, Vallely adding four blocks and Emery three blocks.
Jordan-Elbridge continued its recent strong play against Institute of Technology Central last Monday night, handling the first two sets 25-9 and 25-19 and dropping the third 25-23 before ending it 25-9 in the fourth.
Sydney Parsons notched four aces to go with her nine kills. Madison Clochessy stepped up with seven kills, with Zoie Karcz adding four kills to go with 11 assists and two aces. Brooke Chiaramonte got 10 assists as, defensively, Claire Brown posted 14 digs and Isabella Jay six digs. Chiaramonte added seven digs.
Two nights later at Cato-Meridian, J-E lost the opening set 26-24, but turned it around with close 25-20 and 25-23 wins in the next two sets before taking the fourth in a 25-14 romp to win the match.
Karcz produced 21 assists and 22 digs along with her seven kills, Chiaramonte managing 17 digs and 15 assists along with four aces Abby DelFavero’s 11 kills matching Parsons as Clochessy and Brianna Tubbert got five kills apiece.
Far easier was Friday’s 25-11, 25-19, 25-14 sweep of Syracuse Academy of Science. With six aces, Parsons set the tone confirmed by Chiaramonte’s 10 assists and Karcz’s eight assists to go with seven digs and four aces. Brown piled up 21 digs. With Parsons earning seven kills and DelFavero contributing seven kills.
Bishop Ludden nearly gave up a two-set lead to SAS last Monday night. The Gaelic Knights won the first two 25-17 and 25-13 but then saw the Atoms take the third 25-21 and fourth 25-22.
Still, Ludden regrouped and won the final set 15-11, Natalie Testa getting 10 assists and Sophia Rivera eight assists to go with six aces. Abby Mossotti also had six aces to augment her six kills and 12 digs. Jayliana Pascarella added four kills.
Ludden wasn’t as fortunate against unbeaten Bishop Grimes a night later. A rough opening set led to a 25-9, 25-23, 25-17 defeat to the Cobras as Hilton had seven digs and Tiz’Arriah Billue three kills, Mossotti getting five aces.
On Friday night, Ludden dropped the opening set to Corcoran 25-20 but rolled through the next two sets 25-14 and 25-11 before hanging on 25-22 in the fourth to close it out.
Rivera notched nine assists and five aces, Testa adding seven assists as Hilton produced 11 digs. Up front, Billue was strong with eight kills, Pascarella adding four kills.
