MEXICO – Even as work continues on the long-awaited home pool, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys swim team forges ahead, again moving its home meets for the 2023-24 season to Nottingham High School.
As to the Northstars’ season opener, it traveled north to face Mexico Wednesday night and managed to earn a 99-81 victory over the Tigers led by the brother duo of Jacob and Caden Griffin.
In Jacob Griffin’s case, he swam the 100-yard backstroke in a quick 58.30 seconds after he had taken the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:13.80.
Caden Griffin, in 23.66 seconds, went 1-2 with teammate Brandon Keil (24.18) in the 50 freestyle before he posted the only time under a minute in the 100 butterfly, prevailing in 57.63.
To start out the meet, the two Griffins paired with Keil and Ryan Lasher and tore through the 200 medley relay in a quick 1:47.57 to beat a strong 1:51.26 from Mexico.
Keil would win the 100 freestyle in 54.09 seconds, with Lasher (57.36) second. Later in the meet, Lasher, Keil, Jacob Griffin and Leonardo Alexander won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:49.61, Alexander having already taken the 200 freestyle in 2:06.33. Nate Oronski was second in diving with 260.45 points, with Sean Loughlin third in the 500 freestyle.
Liverpool will have to wait until the following Wednesday to open its season against Auburn, a day after C-NS faces Fulton at the Nottingham pool.
