FULTON – Another season is underway for the Baldwinsville boys swim team, again having to go through two different scoring systems, home and away, due to its lack of a diving board at its Baker High School facility.
That wasn’t the case at Fulton, where the Bees began its season Wednesday night and managed to prevail by a 91-78 margin getting three wins apiece from Mikey White, Lucas Clay and Matt Lange.
And it was Clay making the biggest impact of all. With his time of 1:00.19 in the 100-yard breaststroke, Clay already picked up the qualifying time he would need to attend the NYSPHSAA championships in March at Ithaca College.
White was quick, too, first by going 1:47.99 to dominate the 200-yard freestyle as Kevin Milo managed a second-place finish in 2:10.55. Then, in the 100 butterfly, White tore to a time of 54.36 seconds, with Treygan St. John in third place.
As for Lange, he beat Fulton’s Logan Ames, 50.47 seconds to 51.31, in the 100 freestyle, with Mason Stever third in 53.74. A tight 100 backstroke had Lange need 57.55 to hold off the 57.80 from Fulton’s Chris Mandart.
Clay was also victorious in the 200 individual medley, his 2:04.20 nearly 18 seconds ahead of the 2:21.18 from Fulton’s Aidan Caples as, in the 500 freestyle, Jayden Miranda took first in 5:34.22. To close out the meet, Clay, Lange and White were all part of a 400 freestyle relay team that tore to a time of 3:24.36.
Also, the Bees were victorious in the 200 medley relay in 1:43.54 to Fulton’s 1:50.87 as Stever was second (23.88 seconds) and Alex Nicita third (24.24) in the 50 freestyle. B’ville was second (1:42.42) to Fulton (1:41.51) in a close 200 freestyle relay.
Another road trip comes next Tuesday, the Bees at Oswego, before its Dec. 12 home opener against Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA.
