CENTRAL NEW YORK – Things started quite well for each of the Cazenovia and Chittenango track and field teams when they confronted Onondaga High School League competition for the first time this spring right before they would face each other.
Dominant in Wednesday’s sun-soaked meet against Homer, the boys Lakers roared to a 121-20 victory which featured a sweep of the distance races by Branden McColm.
It started with McColm going five minutes, two seconds in the 1,600-meter run, continued with a 2:14.1 in the 800-meter run and finished at 3,200 meters with McColm winning in 11:23.
Also prevailing three times, Connor Frisbie gave the Lakers a 110 high hurdles victory in 16. seconds before he put up a top long jump of 18 feet 4 inches and a winning triple jump of 38’10 1/2”.
Killian Blouin cleared 10 feet in the pole vault, with Eddie Comeau topping 5’4” in the high jump and Jed Olkowski earning a top shot put toss of 40’4”.
J.P. Hoak beat the field in the 100-meter dash in 11.5 seconds as Dan Raymond took the 400 in 55.2, Jaden Kaplan went 23.8 in the 200-meter dash and Will Schimer was first in the 400 hurdles in 1:11.5.
The same warm conditions permeated through Chittenango’s meet against Mexico, and on the girls side the Bears turned back the Tigers 81-51 as the boys claimed a 93-47 victory.
Sweeping the girls distance races, Chittenango saw Laura Powers take the 800 in 2:43.1 and the 1,500 in 5:52, while Ava McLean went 14:16 at 3,000 meters. Hannah Wagner won the 400 hurdles in 1:15.2 and Allie Bartoszek beat the field in the 100 hurdles in 15.8 seconds.
Elsewhere, Jordan Wagner had a top long jump of 16’5 1/2” to highlight field events as Natalie DiGennaro (triple jump, 28’1”), Miranda Danaher (shot put, 25’6”0 and Mariah Stewart (discus, 75’10”) also prevailed.
As that went on, the boys Bears again featured Caleb LeBlanc, whose three race wins included taking the 1,600 in 4:51, winning the 3,200 in 11:20 and going 55.6 seconds in the 400 sprint.
Joseph Lin chimed in by winning the 110 hurdles in 15.8 seconds and going 20’1 1/2” in the long jump. Landon Parks was first in the 100 in 12.2 and the 200 in 24.3 as Michael Eiffe threw the shot put 37 feet and Rodger Mulholland heaved the discus 95 feet.
