SYRACUSE – A holiday break was not what the Jamesville-DeWitt and Christian Brothers Academy indoor track and field teams experienced.
Instead, the Red Rams and Brothers both returned to SRC Arena for Wednesday’s Westhill Invitational, where they both would record a series of strong finishes.
In J-D’s case, Victoria Payne claimed a victory in the 55-meter dash, her time of 7.57 seconds edging the 7.62 from PSLA-Fowler’s Anovaeh Housley.
Nicolette Militi was fifth in 7.87, inches ahead of CBA’s Amazin Spencer in sixth, and Militi improved to third in the 600-meter run in 1:46.84.
Hailey Webber took second in the shot put with 32 feet 6 inches as Kenna Ridzi was third with 32’4” and Jillian Webber fourth with 31’9”. In the weight throw, Hailey Webber’s 37’4 1/2” was second, with Jillian Webber third by heaving it 36’6 1/2” and Ridzi seventh with 31’5 1/4”.
It was in the 600 where CBA had Grace Fletcher finish second in 1:45.98, while Ally Roueche claimed fourth place in 1:49.55 and Claire Krueger was sixth in 1:49.94. The Brothers were seventh in the 4×200 relay in 1:58.29.
Ellyana Deng was fourth in the triple jump with 31 feet and cleared 4’8” in the high jump for fifth place, while Ridzi (7 feet) and Brielle Rivera (6 feet) were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the pole vault. Nina Autry was 10th in the long jump.
The J-D boys won the 4×400 relay, seeing Brayden Rivera, Will Westpfal, Moujahid Cherif and Shane Gargiulo go 3:41.86 to pull away from Cicero-North Syracuse (3:48.89) by more than seven seconds.
In the 4×200, Cherif joined Dante Santos, Adam Rigdon and Mahir Bechir as the Rams were second in 1:38.90, just behind Baldwinsville’s winning 1:38.57. Cherif was also fourth in the long jump with 18’9 3/4” as Rigdon (17’5 1/4”) earned eighth place.
Harpreet Duggal’s triple jump of 38’7” was second to the 41’10 1/4” from Liverpool’s Ny’Quez Madison, while Westpfal claimed fifth place with 35’11 1/2”.
Jonah Buff had a fourth-place shot put toss of 38’5” as Cade Fowler was fifth with 38 feet and Kevin Vigneault (37’6”) was seventh. Sam Macie, clearing 8 feet, tied for fourth in the pole vault, with Deacon Enright (7 feet) sixth.
Daviel Cruz earned a fourth-place weight throw of 41’9 1/2”, with Fowler fifth at 41’5 3/4” and Vigneault ninth with 38′ 1/4”. Hudson Groat was fifth in the 600 in 1:30.31, with Andres Valladares (1:30.98) and Ryan Carter (1:31.45) in the next two spots.
Groat took seventh place in the 1,000-meter run in 2:49.62, while Dante Santos was ninth in the 55-meter dash in 7.02 seconds. Valladares also tied for ninth in the high jump, topping 5’2”.
