MANLIUS – More than halfway through its regular season, the Baldwinsville field hockey team remains undefeated, having withstood challenges from each of its SCAC Metro division rivals.
Nine days following its 2-1 win over Cicero-North Syracuse, the Bees ventured to Fayetteville-Manlius Thursday and, with airtight defense, put away the Hornets 1-0.
F-M had also knocked off C-NS the previous week, in large measure due to the 19 saves recorded by goalie Kaleigh Hamilton as it somehow withstood a constant Northstars attack.
B’ville didn’t get close to those numbers, only managing seven shots. But one of them got past Hamilton when Emma Hollenbeck converted the go-ahead goal, assisted by Sydney Huthala.
Meanwhile, it was difficult for the Hornets to get anything close against a Bees back line, led by Emma Clappa,Skye Harvard, Cadence Harvard and Ella Holtman, that mostly blocked shots whenever they got close. Nadia Kozman only had to make three saves.
This was the first of three straight road games for B’ville, who goes to Liverpool next Monday and then visits Holland Patent on Thursday afternoon.
