Happily for all of the area’s high school girls tennis teams with matches still remaining, a long stretch of warm weather made sure that remaining matches could get completed.
For example, Jamesville-DeWitt played twice against Cortland on Nov. 7 and won on both occasions, blanking the Purple Tigers 7-0 in the first match and prevailing 6-1 later in the day.
In the 7-0 match, two points were forfeited, but Tara Pollock handled Lexi Zacek 10-1 and Ebunoluwa Oguntola routed Jordan Vail 10-2 in the contested singles matches.
Celia Reid and Lana Wisniewski were pushed in doubles, but still got past Julia Guest and Sadie Urtz 10-7 as the teams of Courtney Keough-Linda Shen and Mackenzie Burns-Elina Park also prevailed.
The other match with Cortland included a point dropped when, in singles, Reid lost 10-4 to Zacek, but J-D took everything else, including Wisniewski handling Rowan Harbin 10-3.
Hailie Bouchard and Jaeda Robinson survived an 11-10 doubles battle with Vail and Lelyzaveta Antonova, while Keough, paired with Serena Patel, held off Guest and Urtz 10-8. Emila Muradova and Alaira Otteson won 10-6 over Olivia McKenna and Margaret Starr.
East Syracuse Minoa took advantage of this and faced Oswego on Nov. 5, with the Spartans able to put together a 5-2 victory over the Buccaneers.
To preserve a doubles sweep, ESM’s team of Rhiannon Axtman and Tierrah Bauer came from behind to knock off Allyson Burns and Kaila Loadwick 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
In the other doubles matches, Alana Day and Katie Schmidt won 7-5, 6-1, over Sonja Anderson and Mallory Weigeit, with Angelina Baxter and Neveah Harris handling Morgan Samson and Samantha Teperning 6-3, 6-3. Meghan Filmer and Hannah Kowanes won 6-3, 6-0 over Zoe Lisk and Nikii Regan.
Up in singles, Bella Sylvester had a 6-4, 6-7, 10-6 loss to Erica Henderson, with Lizzy Phillips falling to Courtney Mills 6-2, 6-4, but Caitlin Abbott rolled through first singles 6-1, 6-1 over Oswego’s Laura Cummings.
