Now there is separation between the Baldwinsville boys golf team and every other Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division side, except for Fayetteville-Manlius.
Thus, the rematch between the Bees and Hornets next Tuesday at Woodcrest Golf Course of their Sept. 1 match won by B’ville 201-207 at Timber Banks likely puts the regular-season league title at stake.
And if nothing else, B’ville goes there in its best form of the season, given the way it tore up Timber Banks Thursday in a 174-198 victory over Syracuse, the second win in 24 hours over that combined city squad.
Three players broke par, led by Maxwell Dec and Ben Donohue, who tore their way to four-under-par totals of 32. Ryan Conley had his best round of the season, too, posting a 35 as Tanner Glavin added a 37, the same score as Syracuse’s Jon Kinane.
In all, B’ville played three times in as many days, startingTuesday with a visit from West Genesee, the team that handed the Bees its lone defeat 192-197 on Aug. 24 at Westvale.
But in the more familiar surroundings of Timber Banks, the Bees got even, beating the Wildcats 192-205 as Donohue, with a nine-hole score of 35, edged out WG’s Nick Bove for low individual honors, and Dec matched Bove’s 36.
In order to get away, though, the rest of the Bees had to step up – and did. Dan Reiser shot a 38 to equal WG’s Jimmy LaValle, while Trevor Tooke, with a 41, and Matt Shipman, with a 42, made sure the 39 from the Wildcats’ Jimmy Corcoran didn’t cause much damage.
A day later, at Marcellus Country Club, B’ville prevailed again, topping Syracuse City 192-217 mostly thanks to the low rounds from Dec and Donohue, who both broke par as Dec finished with a 34 and Donohue added a 35. Tanner Glavin added a 41, matching Syracuse’s low individual round by Liam Murphy.
Having improved to 7-1 overall, the Bees take on Liverpool Monday right before the trip to Woodcrest and then meet Cicero-North Syracuse’s Blue Team Thursday at Northern Pines.
