Continuing their strong starts, the Jamesville-DeWitt and East Syracuse Minoa track and field teams each won against OHSL Freedom division foes.
J-D’s girls team pummeled Oswego 119-21 and featured Alexandria Payne, who won four events. Payne cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump after going 15.8 seconds in the 100 hurdles, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.9 seconds to Alexia Carr’s 13.4 and claiming the 200-meter dash in 26.8 seconds.
Also on the oval, Hannah Butler ran 800 meters in 2:30 flat, with Abby Palin taking the 1,500-meter run in 5:26.1 and Amelia Gilbert winning the 3,000-meter run in 12:26.4. Elena Haarer won the 400-meter dash in 1:03.6 as Amanda Semmel took the 400 hurdles in 1:16.5.
In field events, Sara Signorelli cleared 8 feet in the pole vault, with Ciara Norris going 16’2” in the long jump and Jessica Pace throwing the discus 75’7”, edging out Mariyana Williams-VanArsdale, who did win the shot put by going 28’8 ¼”.
Haarer, Carr, Butler and Shannon Hildreth took the 4×400 relay in 4;37.3, this following a 4×100 where Carr also ran a leg and J-D prevailed in 55.2 seconds. The Rams had rolled to first place in the 4×800 relay in 11:27.4.
Though the boys meet between J-D and Oswego wasn’t as lopsided, the Red Rams still handled the Buccaneers 95-46, led by Mike Potamianos, who won the 200 in 23.7 seconds, edging Oswego’s Christian Cabanling (23.8 seconds), and took the 400 sprint in 53.8 seconds.
Jan Ramirez edged Potamianos in the 100, though both finished in 11.6 seconds, and Ramirez went on to throw the shot put 40’7” to beat Henry Middleton (39’3 ½”), who bounced back to take the discus with a toss of 107’9”. Ramirez also ran a leg in the 4×100, which J-D claimed in 45.8 seconds.
Chris Blust was first in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet. Miles Chandler (4:57.1) held off Sam Glisson (4:58.9) in the mile and also won the 800 in 2:13.5 as John Roosa took the 400 hurdles in 1:03.3 and Patrick Dye went 10;11.1 in the 3,200-meter run. J-D won the 4×400 in 3:50.4.
ESM had a three-way meet against Central Square and Mexico, winning both sides of it as the girls Spartans defeated the Redhawks 87-54 and route the Tigers 123-17.
Mia Montgomery went 15’8” in the long jump to edge Central Square’s Bethany Cripps (15’5”) and also unleashed a top triple jump of 34’4”. Natalie Marra ran 1,500 meters in 5:191 and also took the 3,000 in 10:52.9. Lindsey Crego threw the discus 75’10” as ESM swept the 4×100 (53.9 seconds), 4×400 (4:37.6) and 4×800 (11:01.9) relays.
The boys meet also was an ESM sweep, the Spartans holding off Central Square 77-64 and handling Mexico 96-45. Isaiah Brooks won twice, claiming the 110 hurdle s in 16.3 seconds and the high jump by clearing 6 feet, while Matt Young ran the mile in 4:47.8 and beat Nick Berg, 10:20.3 to 10:27.2, in the 3,200.
Abdullah Mujcic, with a top long jump of 19’10, edged Central Square’s Erich Metz (19’9 ¾”) by a quarter of an inch. Jordan Hodge matched the Redhawks’ Owen Lovell in the 400 sprint, each posting 55.7 seconds as Young, Berg, Jared Henry and Nick Castor took the 4×800 relay in 9:08.9, while Brooks and Mujcic were part of ESM’s winning 4×100 side that finished in 46.6 seconds.
Christian Brothers Academy had its OHSL Liberty division opener against Westhill-Bishop Ludden, where despite a relay sweep on the boys side, the Brothers still lost, 100-41, to the Warriors.
CBA got it going when it won the 4×800 relay in 8:56.7, well clear of Westhill-Ludden’s 9:05.6. Then it went 46.3 seconds in the 4×100 to breeze to first place before the Brothers covered the 4×400 in 3:52 flat, winning there, too.
Tom SanGiacomo, who took part in the 4×100 and 4×400, roared to first place in the 100 in 11.1 seconds. Brendan Keeney added a victory in the 800 in 2:08.7, but the Warriors claimed every other individual race and swept the top spots in the field events, too, with Joe Connor first in the long jump and high jump.
On the girls side, CBA lost, 87-54, to Westhill-Ludden, though it still swept the sprints. Anna Langlois went 13.4 seconds to beat Kat Fletcher (14.0 seconds) in the 100-meter dash before Kiana Ferguson won the 200 in 27.4 seconds, ahead of Langlois (28.2 seconds) in the runner-up spot.
Olivia Morganti, in 1:02.4, edged Kate LaCasse (1:02.8) and Claire Bargabos (1:02.9) in the 400 sprint, with Anna Schug joining Ferguson, Morganti and Ryleigh Peterson as CBA won the 4×400 relay in 51.9 seconds. Ferguson had the lone field-event victory for the Brothers, going 15’5 ½” in the long jump as Ellisa Kemtisty was a close second (31’2”) to Westhill-Ludden’s Annibel Coolican (31’3”) in the triple jump.
Manlius-Pebble Hill’s girls track teams opened with a sweep of its three-way meet, topping Fabius-Pompey 75-53 and Syracuse Academy of Science 91-34, though the boys sides lost to both the Falcons and Atoms.
Bishop Grimes opened last Tuesday afternoon with a meet at Cato-Meridian that also featured Faith Heritage.
The girls Cobras lost 70-40 to the Blue Devils and 74-22 to the Saints, though Grimes’ Jordan Sloan won the 400 sprint in 1:04.6 and Isabella Naylor took the 1,500-meter run in 5:42 flat. For Faith Heritage, Jasmine DePalmo (100 and 200 sprints, long jump) and Holly Manchester (shot put, discus, triple jump) won three events apiece.
In the boys meet, Grimes fell to Faith Heritage 101-34 and lost to Cato-Meridian 78-45, but did see Chris Larson win the mile in 5:24 flat after going 12:10.4 in the 3,200. Nigel Dufus added a winning shot put toss of 35’3”.
