A superb spring for the Liverpool track and field programs culminated with a clean sweep of Wednesday’s Section III Class AA championship meets at Bragman Stadium.
The girls Warriors nearly lapped the field with 183 points to the 104 from runner-up Fayetteville-Manlius, while the Liverpool boys picked up 132 points, holding off Utica Proctor (102 points) for the victory.
Marissa Baskin led the Liverpool girls with 26 individual points, starting with a victory in the 100-meter dash in 12.57 seconds where Baskin beat out teammate Haven Hicks (12.78) in seconds. Then Hicks won the 200-meter dash in 25.71 seconds, with Anne Gullo (27.06 seconds) in third.
In the long jump, Baskin went 18 feet 6 inches, beating out C-NS’s Brooke Blaisdell, who was second with 18’1″, Baskin also getting a third-place triple jump of 37’10” as Blaisdell won there with 39’3″.
And in the 4×100 relay, Baskin, Hicks, Gullo and Riley Norris roared to victory in 49.04 seconds, with Gullo also fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.38 and Eva Woodworth (1:02.25) sixth.
Jenna Schulz, in 4:39.19, pulled away from F-M’s Phoebe White (4:48.85) to win the 1,500-meter run, with Madison Neuner (4:53.60) beat out Sydney Carlson (4:54.79) for third place.
Madison Neuner needed 6:57.23 to beat the field by more than half a minute in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, with Emily Neuner third in 7:36.49 and Rosie Petrella (7:53.39) fifth. Schulz also finished second in the 3,000-meter run in 10:20.80 as Carlson was fifth in 10:37.17.
Amina Sinclair again won in the high jump, clearing 5’4″ as C-NS’s Liliana Klemanski was second with 5 feet. Imahni Sinclair threw the shot put 37’2 1/2″ to finish second, with Madyson Oliveri (31’3 3/4″) fifth as Sinclair got a third-place discus throw of 105’4″.
Kali Hayes was second in the 100 hurdles in 15.54 seconds to Corcoran’s Kiari Hameed (15.49), adding a second-place finish in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.49.
Liverpool’s boys victory was sparked by Nathan Reeves holding off F-M’s Nolan Chiles to win the mile in 4:23.23 to Chiles’ 4:24.73, with Carter Rodriguez third in 4:27.35.
Not stopping there, Reeves tore to a winning time of 1:58.19 in the 800, passing Rome Free Academy’s Devon McClendon (1:58.82) as Spencer Ruediger was third in 2:01.68 and Dawson Newbern (2:02.74) beat B’ville’s Jon Formoza by inches for fourth place.
To cap off the track efforts, Liverpool swept the top four spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Nick Brancato winning in 9:57.21 over Ryan Cartwright (10:01.65), Jack McGowan (10:25.05) and Ruediger (10:27.01), with Ethan Glashauser in sixth place.
Reeves, Ruediger, Cameron O’Connell and T.J. Praschunus went 8:05.45 to hold off Baldwinsville (8:07.24) and win the 4×800 relay, with McGowan winning the 3,200-meter run in 9:42.96, with Rodriguez fifth and Reeves sixth.
In a sweep of the throwing events, Liverpool had Antwan Kelly go 144’7″ in the discus to beat Jacob Barnes (132’11”), with Barnes winning the shot put thanks to a toss of 47’3 1/2″.
Paul Dewan recorded a third-place triple jump of 41’1 1/2″. Jack Pento was fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.44 as the Warriors finished fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:32.91.
Host Cicero-North Syracuse finished third in the girls sectional AA meet with 95.5 points and was fourth in the boys meet with 73 points.
Aside from her triple jump victory, Blaisdell was third in the 100 hurdles in 15.82 seconds, with Savannah Kuhr fourth in 16.61 seconds to go with Kuhr’s fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.02 and Shannon Brown (1:11.73) sixth.
Hannah Boyle provided a highlight in the 400 sprint, the eighth-grader breaking the one-minute mark as she finished second in 59.56 seconds, with Jamie Wagner (1:02.07) fifth.
Lexi Gaetz got second place in the pentathlon, earning 2,010 points to trail F-M’s Katie Berge’ (2,150), with Kaley Bristow topping 8’6″ in the pole vault for second place as Liverpool’s Sophia Recuparo (7’6″) was fourth and Catherine Crivelli was fifth with 7 feet. Sierra Davis had a fourth-place triple jump of 37’8″.
C-NS’s Isaiah Wright went 15.91 seconds to edge Corcoran’s Malique Wilson (15.93) and win the boys 110 high hurdles. Nate Osborne cleared 12 feet in the pole vault, winning that event.
Andrew Culver, throwing the shot put 46’6 3/4″, was second to Barnes, while Elijah Knight was third in the discus with 124’6″ as Culver was sixth in 107’9″.
Joe Tschopp was third in the pentathlon with 2,386 points, with Jack Tschopp in sixth place. Sam Nessel was third in the 400 sprint in 51.88 seconds, with Christian Carlin fourth in 52.36 seconds.
Ryan Dupra tied for third in the high jump, clearing 6 feet as Liverpool’s Bennett Robb (5’6″) was fifth and Jeremiah Willis, only competing in the long jump, went 21’3″ to finish fifth. The Northstars were third in the 4×800 in 8:35.88, fourth in the 4×400 (3:36.90) and sixth in the 4×100.
