To the editor:
As your Sept. 7 edition of the Star-Review reported in Viewpoints, the Liverpool High School graduating class of 1966 recently converged on Liverpool for its 50th reunion.
The event was an immense success thanks to the attention to detail paid by its planners: Lorraine Church Bailey, Nancy Clement Fetterly, Susan Conklin Kilfoyle, Dorianne Elitharp Guterrez, et.al.
Some alumni traveled from as far as Maui to attend and were certain that the time, expense and jet lag were well worth the enjoyment of the experience.
By happenstance, I met one of your columnists at a local seafood restaurant.
As a person who regularly ate his burgers at Tarby’s, I thought I was seeing an apparition or a doppelganger of the original Russ Tarby.
While many think it was the Tarby Hamburger that made Tarby’s such a success, I am convinced that it was Russ.
Tarby’s never could have succeeded as a franchise chain because Mother Nature only provided us with one Russ Tarby.
Much to his credit, Russ Tarby’s son shares much of his father’s DNA and affable personality traits.
Being with the Class of 1966 brought back many great memories of those heady salad days, but talking briefly with Russ Tarby, Jr., also brought its own raft of good memories.
Although I only get back to Liverpool once a year, it’s nice to see the village still values the things that are truly important in life.
