Walk for the Woods 2016! was a great success! Thank you to our generous Walk sponsors and supporters: Overhead Door, United HealthCare, Seniors Helping Seniors, Seneca Savings, McHarrie Life, MVP, Abbott Farms, Kay Brosh and Larry Barnett. Thank you to everyone who walked for the Woods and the folks who contributed to their effort! We had two-legged and four-legged participants and everyone had a good time. Join us again next year!
September is National Senior Center Month. This year’s theme is Find Balance at Your Center. You can find balance at Canton Woods. The center offers a wide range of programs. Our free Falls Prevention Class is now in full swing. The class is at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. This class is taught by a licensed physical therapist. Come and find balance at your center!
The Active Older Adults aerobics class is also held at 9:15 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. There is a fee for this class payable to the instructor. Time to get moving!
AARP Defensive Driving returns. The next class is Thursday, Oct. 6. The class time is 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you are a member of AARP the fee is $20 and if you do not belong to AARP the fee is $25. Call the center at 638-4536 to register. Classes fill up quickly.
Flu season is just around the corner. Canton Woods’ first flu clinic takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30. Rite Aid pharmacy will administer the vaccine. Call the center at 638-4536 to let us know you are coming. Bring all your insurance cards.
Looking ahead to October, the annual Limburger Cheese Party is almost here! The party will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. You must make paid reservations by Sept. 30. The cost is $6. This is Senior Activity Group event. They are able to keep the cost down thanks to a generous donation from Barnes Memorial. Stop by Canton Woods and make your reservation.
The Senior Activity Group Hot Dog Tuesdays are at 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday. Stop by the center and enjoy these seasonal favorites. Everyone is welcome. The price is $2.25 per hot dog or coney. This is a fun and tasty fundraiser. See you at the center!
Canton Woods now has a medication return collection unit. This is a safe and environmentally-friendly way to dispose of your unused medications. You may drop off your unused medication to the return box at Canton Woods from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Senior Nutrition. You can enjoy lunch at the center. Canton Woods is a senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make a reservation (638-4536) and stop by at noon for lunch. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older. Suggested donation is $2.75.
Wondering what’s for lunch? On Wednesday, Sept. 28, the menu includes house made meatloaf with gravy, home style mashed potatoes, California blend vegetables, fresh pear and fresh baked whole wheat roll. Make your reservation and join us for a delicious lunch!
