Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Cicero is teaming up with Divine Mercy Parish in Central Square to present a series of speakers on the topic of mercy. “Awakening: The Astounding Mercy of God” takes place Sept. 10 and will feature a keynote address by Catholic singer-songwriter Jackie Francois and her husband, Bobby Angel.
The event also features breakout sessions with speakers Father Joseph O’Connor and Dave Kilpatrick. Bishop Robert J. Cunningham of the Diocese of Syracuse will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. following the event.
“It’s an opportunity to come together and not only talk about and explore God’s mercy … to experience in a very personal way God’s mercy,” said Father Richard Prior of Sacred Heart. “Mercy is different than forgiveness. Mercy is a real, tangible expression of love.”
Bobby Angel and Jackie Francois are worship leaders, speakers and bloggers. Francois has released two gospel albums, “Your Kingdom Is Glorious” and “Divine Comedy.”
“She’s phenomenal — a really talented musician,” Prior said.
The event is open to the public. Prior said Sacred Heart has sold more than 200 tickets and is expecting about 500 attendees. Prior said “Awakening” is an opportunity for people to “experience God in a new way or possibly for the first time.”
“Awakening: The Astounding Mercy of God” takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Sacred Heart, located at 8229 Brewerton Road in Cicero. Tickets are $5 per person or $15 per family and will be available at the door. Call 699-2752 for more information.
