LIVERPOOL — The community is invited to celebrate the everlasting wonder of Agatha Christie with a day that celebrates the brilliance of the mystery writer as well as a novel that’s the 2022 pick by CNY Reads.
Participants can work on a mystery themselves in the first event and then explore the minds of Christie and author Marie Benedict in the second.
CNY Reads Agatha Christie: Mystery in the Stacks runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and dares literary-loving sleuths to drop in to solve a mystery, like longtime page-turning Christie favorites Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple. You can pick up your game sheet at the Information @ LPL Desk and begin your search to find the hidden clues. Think you’ve solved it? Turn it back at the desk to see if you’re right. If so, you win a prize.
Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None starts at 1 p.m. in the Carman Community Room. The program will be presented by CNY Reads One Book and the LPL. Participants will first get the chance to solve the same mystery as those who participate in Mystery in the Stacks. Then they will discuss Christie’s life and work, and hear about this year’s CNY Reads selection, ”The Mystery of Mrs. Christie” by Maria Benedict. Benedict’s novel, based on Christie’s real-life 11-day disappearance in 1926, was a New York Times and USA Today bestseller in 2021. The event will culminate in the screening of the 1945 film adaptation of Christie’s novel “And Then There Were None.”
Benedict’s novel is also the selection for the 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24 edition of the monthly edition of Thursday Morning Book Klatch in the Carman Community Room, which will also be available on ZOOM. Register for the events from the library website calendar page at lpl.org/events.
Afterward, everybody might be up for a stop at the theater to check out “Death on the Nile,” the latest adaptation of Christie’s 1937 classic.
Career series starts March 15
The LPL’s new Career Series is designed to help those looking to get into the job market.
Staffers Edina Osmanovic and Daniel Perez will collaborate on monthly sessions that will cover the important initial steps needed to prepare for what’s ahead. At 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, they’ll prepare an overview for job orientation. At 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, they’ll talk about building a resume. The sessions meet in the Carman Community Room. Register for each event at lpl.org/events.
