BALDWINSVILLE — Make your own soap from scratch at the Baldwinsville Public Library! The library is hosting a cold process soap-making program for ages 13 and over at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30. Register on our website (bville.lib.ny.us) as space is limited.
All the material, equipment, and supplies will be provided including: oils, colorants, fragrance, and lye (sodium hydroxide). The lye mixture can be corrosive, so this program is not suitable for young children. Safety goggles and gloves will be provided, but extra care is necessary throughout this program.
Never made soap before? Don’t worry! The instructors will guide you through all the steps, measurements, and safety procedures. You will make six small bars of soap by the end of the program. You can add your own unique colors, fragrances, and even some special additives (like dried flowers, coffee beans, etc.) The bars take 24 to 48 hours to harden, so you will bring your soap home to harden and cure before use.
Families and groups are encouraged to sign up for this program and make their soap together! Please sign up separately if you each want to make your own six bars of soap. Masks are required while inside the library and throughout this program. Please call the library at 315-635-5631 or email [email protected] if you have any questions.
