CICERO — Lynda.com, an online leader for professional development courses and skill-building tutorials, has been offered as a digital resource to library cardholders since 2015. Most recently, it has changed hands and has now become LinkedIn Learning.
To use LinkedIn Learning from the library, you don’t need a LinkedIn account to get started. LinkedIn Learning is designed especially for libraries with privacy default settings approved by ALA (The American Library Association). When Library cardholders use LinkedIn Learning for the first time, they will have a quick set-up to go through. After that, information, classes-in-progress, and course history will be moved to a new LinkedIn Learning account.
Experts teach the over 1,600 courses offered through LinkedIn Learning from their respective fields and range from beginner to advanced; covering a wide variety of subjects such as marketing, software, CAD, animation and photography, job hunting, web design, business, and management skills, programming, and much more.
“LinkedIn Learning is an incredible digital resource,” says Terry Morris, adult services librarian at Cicero Branch. “People can take an unlimited number of courses at their own pace 24 hours a day!”
It’s also an incredible value: an individual membership on LinkedIn Learning typically costs $30 per month or $240 per year, but at the library all you need is your card number and PIN.
Each self-paced course is broken down into easy-to-complete segments that include audio, video, and text transcripts and can be accessed on a computer or a mobile device with the LinkedIn Learning app. Certificates of completion are available at the end of the course and can be integrated directly into a user’s LinkedIn profile if desired.
