The Liverpool Public Library Board of Trustees approved the director’s 2021-2022 budget proposal of $4,139,800 at the virtual monthly meeting of Wednesday, April 14.
The proposed budget calls for a 0% tax impact.
Registered voters in the Liverpool Central School District will vote on the LPL budget from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at the former Wetzel Road Elementary Gymnasium. The library budget will be a separate line item from the LCSD budget. Also on the ballot will be three seats for the LPL Board of Trustees.
There will be a public hearing about the proposed budget before the May board meeting, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the LPL’s Carman Community Room. The library will not be open for general business at that time, but anybody interested in attending the hearing will be able to enter the Carman Community Room through the lobby.
A copy of the budget will be sent to LCSD residents via mail beforehand, and is available at lpl.org/about-lpl/about-us/budget/.
LPL Board Vice President Donald J. MacLaughlin recalled that that when the ‘20-‘21 budget was passed and then approved by voters with a 2% tax impact, then-President Denise Baker charged the board and LPL management with coming up with a 21-22 budget with a 0% tax impact.
“I think everybody should be proud,” MacLaughlin said, “to be able to accomplish this in a COVID year.”
Current Board President Kay Budmen and Baker both added that they indeed were proud of steps taken in this budget process, and the proposal was approved unanimously.
