Cazenovia College’s 15th annual Paul J. Schupf Lecture will feature Marisa Shea, a 2011 graduate of the college, who will present a talk titled, “Speaking to Power.”
Shea currently serves California’s State Senate as a counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, analyzing and advising on legislation related to child welfare, family law, California’s courts and judicial system.
Her presentation will take place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, in the McDonald Lecture Hall, Eckel Hall on the Cazenovia College campus. The event will be broadcast via the College’s Livestream service at https://livestream.com/cazenoviacollege/Schupf2018. It is free and open to the public.
After receiving her undergraduate degree, Shea attended the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she focused her legal studies on public law and policy. After being admitted to the California State Bar in 2014, she served as Congresswoman Matsui’s health policy field representative. In this role, Shea represented the Congresswoman on health, women and children’s issues in California’s 6th Congressional District.
Shea returned to focusing on state policy and political issues in 2015, when she helped California’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) programs launch a statewide public policy effort, utilizing the knowledge of California’s 44 CASA programs to inform youth-focused child welfare law and policy.
