Voters in the Liverpool and North Syracuse school districts passed their 2016-17 budgets on Tuesday, May 17.
In Liverpool, residents okayed the $148,975,797 proposal by a vote of 1,064 to 429. They also approved a $1,369,050 bus proposition (1,053 to 437) and another to establish a capital reserve fund (1,074 to 421).
With a tax levy increase of 1.9 percent, residents can expect to pay $27.13 more per $100,000 of assessed value.
Liverpool voters also picked three board of education candidates: Neil Fitzpatrick kept his seat with 1,055 votes, while newcomers Craig Dailey received 973 votes and Christopher Hockey got 938 votes. Nicholas Blaney was not elected, receiving 792 votes. Dailey and Hockey will replace exiting board members John Kennedy and David Watson. They and Fitzpatrick will serve three-year terms.
In addition, voters passed the Liverpool Public Library’s $3,899,000 budget by a margin of 1,176 to 320. Taxpayers in Clay will pay 3.5 cents more per $100,000 of assessed value, while those in Salina will pay 1.5 cents more. Running unopposed for three trustee seats were Catherine Budmen (1,206 votes), Donald McLaughlin (1,148) and John Hluchyj (873).
North Syracuse voters approved their $155,237,936 budget proposal with 1,636 yes votes and 477 no votes. Residents also okayed a $1,566,828 bus proposition by a vote of 1,605 to 501. The budget calls for a 1.09 percent tax levy increase, or $25 per $100,000 of assessed value.
Voters returned two incumbents to the board of education, giving Mary Scanlon 1,711 votes and Michael Shusda 1,571 votes. Previous board member Jacqueline Owens was also elected with 1,522 votes. They will serve three-year terms. Sharon Jacquin Hartel, who received 880 votes, was not elected.
In addition, the Salina Free Library’s $428,186 budget was approved by a margin of 93 to 26.
