James F. Mordaunt, 91, of Florida and Marcellus, died on April 29, 2019, in Port Charlotte, Florida. Jim grew up in Oswego, and attended both high school and college there, graduating with a degree in Education.
Jim served in the U.S. Army in WWII, and later married Dorothy J Raby in June of 1951. He moved with his family to Marcellus, where he spent much of his life.
Jim was a teacher and also a principal in the Marcellus School district for over 30 years. He also coached basketball for the Marcellus Mustangs. He loved mentoring staff, teachers and students during his time with the Marcellus district. Although it has been many years since his retirement, Jim is fondly remembered by past faculty and students.
After retiring, Jim and Dorothy moved to Florida, living in Bradenton and Zolfo Springs. He enjoyed camping and bicycle riding, reading and playing golf. His greatest love, though, was found in the many special times spent with family and friends.
James is predeceased by the love of his life, Dorothy (Raby) Mordaunt, who passed in 2008. James is survived by son Timothy Mordaunt of Buffalo, daughter Jean Vulcano of Tully, son John Mordaunt of Marietta, son Daniel and wife Charlotte Mordaunt of Baldwinsville, son Thomas and wife Sharon Mordaunt of Marietta. He was a grandfather to 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 6 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Marcellus. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.
