Betty J. Burns, 75, of Skaneateles, passed away peacefully on Nov. 23, 2018, after a brief illness at Auburn Hospital.
She was born at home to the late Paul W. Lader and Viola C. Schaeffer Lader. She grew up on the family farm and lived her life in Skaneateles. She was a graduate of Skaneateles High School. She worked several years for Welch-Allyn before becoming a homemaker. Betty enjoyed the outdoor activities of snowmobiling, deer hunting, trap shooting, cross-country skiing and gardening. She also loved canning her garden vegetables and baking. She was an avid animal lover, having several cats and dogs, and a nature enthusiast with her many bird feeders. She was a woman of dignity and perfection.
Betty was predeceased by her brother Melvin Lader and a sister, Gail Landers. Betty is survived by her husband, Stephen Burns and a sister, Evelyn (Francis) Grinnell; Sister-in-laws Roberta Cole Lader, Robin Burns Fowler and Kathleen Burns Hotchkin and a brother-in-law Ed Landers; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, with a service immediately following at the Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, Skaneateles. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
