Cecil Lindsley, 95, died of lymphoma Sept. 21, 2017, in Rochester surrounded by family. He had been active and independent, enjoying daily walks and outings until just weeks before his death.
Mr. Lindsley was born May 5, 1922, grew up in Manlius and lived in Cazenovia with his wife, Beverly, for 70 years before moving to Penfield, N.Y., in 2014. Mrs. Lindsley died in 2015.
Mr. Lindsley served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. An ace auto mechanic, he was a partner in Cecil & Paul’s Mobil gas and service station in Fayetteville for many years before opening Manlius Garage, which he operated until age 70. He continued to work part-time well into his 80s. A kind and generous man, Mr. Lindsley loved being with family and friends above all else.
Mr. Lindsley is survived by daughters Sherrie Winters, Clifton Springs, N.Y., and Kathy and Terri Lindsley of Rochester; granddaughters Kim Van Der Linden, Tonawanda, N.Y., and Kris (Patrick) Irwin, Hollywood, FL. Besides his wife, Mr. Lindsley was predeceased by his son, Jamie, and granddaughter, Katie Van Der Linden, three brothers and a sister.
A celebration of his life will take place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Penfield United Methodist Church, 1795 Baird Road, Penfield, NY 14526. Memorial donations may be directed to the church for the Fellowship Hall/Ministry Center Fund.
