Joseph “Joe” Paterniti passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, while wintering in Myrtle Beach. Born in Earlville, N.Y., he was the son of the late Sam and Rose Paterniti. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Sebastian; and sister, Sarah Alumbaugh.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Linda; sons, Mark (Terry), Dave (Annamarie) and Paul (Bonnie); grandchildren, Shane, Sabrina, Kevin and Kayla Paterniti, Kristen Thorne, Roger Robinson and Jessica and Alexis Shewell; 11 great-grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew.
Joe graduated from SUNY Oswego with a master’s degree in education and was an inspiring industrial arts teacher. He coached football for 35 years at Westhill Central High School. As an educator and coach, he had a positive influence on many young lives and on his co-workers. Whether you knew him for a day or for 50 years, he made an impression. He loved effortlessly and unconditionally.
In his retirement, Joe enjoyed playing golf, traveling to South Carolina each winter and volunteering as a driver for CatFISH. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Camillus.
Relatives and friends called at 9:45 a.m. Monday, April 3, at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass followed at 10:30 a.m. Joe was laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners at a later date.
