For over 90 years, the members of Tigris Shriners of Syracuse have raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the mission and primary philanthropy of the Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of specialized pediatric hospitals. Now, the Tigris Shriners are asking the community to help out a family from Baldwinsville.
A few weeks ago, Adelynn, a 2-year-old from Baldwinsville, sustained third- and fourth-degree scald burns to her neck, chest, back and upper extremities — covering 50% of her total body surface area — due to an accident involving fire at her home. Adelynn was taken to a local hospital and then was transferred to Shriners Hospital for Children in Boston.
For several weeks, Adelynn was in critical care/intensive care and on a ventilator. She has undergone 10 trips to the operating room thus far for excision of wounds, allografting of wounds and finally autografting of wounds. She has also undergone dressing changes and the placement of a feeding tube. Her precarious medical condition has been complicated by fevers, necessitating high doses of sedative medication.
While Adelynn is now extubated and off the ventilator, she will have a long road to recovery. Tigris Shriners will fund the family’s transportation and stay in Boston for at least the next six months or longer as Adelynn’s medical needs dictate.
The organization is seeking tax-deductible donations to the Tigris Shrine Transportation Fund to support the care of children and families currently being helped at the Shriners Hospitals for Children, like Adelynn.
