The Cazenovia village and town code departments would like to remind residents that when emergency services are responding to a call, time is usually precious. In a large village and township like Cazenovia, locating an address can sometimes prove difficult.
The village and town of Cazenovia code departments request that all residents post their physical 911 address on their property. It is not unheard of for emergency personnel to spend critical time searching for address markers while the clock is ticking.
Addresses on houses should be clearly visible from the street or road and, if the building is concealed or is more than 50 feet from the street or road, the address should be posted at the street.
It is important that signage is at least four feet in height and that the numerals have a reflective background.
When posting the sign, it should be in a lit area when possible and clearly mark the associated property. Also, make sure your driveway is free of tree limbs and debris hanging down so it does not interfere with the responding emergency vehicles and cause damage to those vehicles.
Please note that residents are required by law to post their physical 911 address, and that the 911 dispatch centers in New York state are prohibited from using names when broadcasting information due to privacy laws and emergency response can be delayed trying to locate a property. This could mean precious time wasted.
