SKANEATELES- On Feb. 25, Skaneateles Superintendent Eric Knuth announced that on March 1, seniors would be welcome back to full time, five days a week, in-person instruction.
“We are excited to share positive news in our ongoing battle against COVID-19 and in our mission to increase in person learning opportunities for Skaneateles children,” Knuth wrote. “Yesterday, through our ongoing partnership with the Onondaga County Health Department, we conducted 292 COVID-19 tests that resulted in zero positive cases being identified in our school community. These are impressive results under normal circumstances but even more significant given the proximity to February break. Thank you for the vigilance and self-sacrifice that made this possible in our community. As I shared prior to break, our data will determine our options and this is extremely encouraging.”
Knuth said the district is looking forward to restrictions being lifted, but at this time there are still a lot of restrictions across the state.
“Despite current restrictions remaining in force, we are excited to share that we were able to create additional in-person learning opportunities at the high school for all students in our current senior class,” Knuth said. “On Monday, March 1, 2021, all of our senior class will be welcomed back to full time in-person instruction five days per week. Sincere thanks for the caring, creativity, and flexibility of our high school faculty, staff, and administration for making this a reality for our seniors.”
Knuth recognized that this years has required a lot of flexibility on the part of families and students as well as school staff and he recognized that while many want to get back to “normal” this opportunity to return ot five day in person learning will also present the need for adaptability.
“While this will be exciting and welcome news to many, we recognize that this will be an adjustment and a source of concern for others,” Knuth said. “Our hybrid and remote learning offerings will remain in place for those who choose that option and we recognize the additional support that will be required throughout this transition. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration, we thank you for your partnership throughout this process and we are thrilled to welcome back additional students to full-time, in-person instruction. We look forward to sharing our survey results with you next week and for the opportunity to continue to add grade levels back into full-time instruction at the high school once permitted by regulation changes.”
