Marcellus student named STEM Scholar
Marcellus High School senior Michaela Tangredi was one of several Central New York students named CNY STEM Scholars at a ceremony June 7 at Le Moyne College in Syracuse.
The CNY STEM Scholars program is a partnership between SRC, King + King, Schneider Packaging Equipment Company, C&S Companies, Carrier Corporation, the CNY STEM Hub and Partners for Education and Business. The scholarships are designed to support the best and brightest students in the Central New York region in their quest to pursue science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields in college.
Michaela plans to study mechanical engineering at Clarkson University beginning in the fall.
As a little girl, Michaela enjoyed watching her grandfather create wonderful feats of engineering. She was driven by his brilliance and knew she wanted to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. With her strong math and science skills, Michaela wants to become an animatronics engineer, transforming ideas or characters into reality.
According to her teachers, Michaela is driven to be the best and consistently provides thought-provoking perspectives during class. She is not afraid to talk things out or state her opinion on what she believes to be correct.
In addition to the Marcellus soccer and track teams, Michaela has been an active member of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), student government, Character Education Club and many honor societies. Recently, Michaela created her own service event at the high school, students-versus-staff volleyball game to raise money for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
