Thousands of residents in the village of Fayetteville and the town of Manlius were left without power for about an hour starting around 3:30 p.m. on June 2 as a result of a vehicle crashing into a power utility pole on the 400 block of S. Manlius Street.

Captain J.H. Peckins of the Manlius Police Department said at 3:24 p.m., a vehicle traveling north on S. Manlius Street went off the road and struck a utility pole, causing a power outage in the area. One minor injury to an occupant of the vehicle was reported and a citation was issued to the driver of the vehicle, said Peckins.

About 2,400 National Grid customers experienced an outage as a result of the accident, said Virginia Limmiatis, a media representative from National Grid. All but a half-dozen customers had their power fully restored by about 4:30 p.m., and the remaining customers had restored power by the end of the day, she said.

Due to the power outage, traffic lights were out and multiple agencies, including the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, the New York State Park Police and multiple fire department assisted with traffic control, said Peckins.

The utility pole was damaged to the point where it needed to be replaced and National Grid crews began that process following the incident, said Limmiatis.
